"Stela" is a film about Claudia who has a very special relationship with his daughter Elia. They share a fantasy world that appears when Claudia tells a story to her daughter. In that world, they are Stela and Zina, a queen and a princess expelled from his kingdom.

"Mumbai Spirit" is a film based on a young person from village who wishes to go to Mumbai city. Before starting he travel the people from village discouraged him by telling terrifying stories about the city. But he still came to Mumbai and was overwhelmed by lively positive spirit of people living here. 


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Professional Shorts "Tez" from India, Directed by BHASKAR UPADHYAYA AND PRABHAT GOSWAMI.

"Tez" is a short film based on a father who abandons his new born girl child in the want of a boy. The story is based on the backdrop of the 90’s era, when in certain societies a male child meant prosperity and an extra earning hand, and whereas the ‘weaker sex’ was looked down upon. The father associates the birth of a girl with unending responsibilities and liabilities. However, the world turns upside down when he has his moment of realization.

"FATAL REGRET" IS ALL ABOUT A WELL EDUCATED DECENT BUT JOBLESS MAN WHO WAS UNABLE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY MEMBERS. HE WAS INCAPABLE OF PROVIDING BETTER TREATMENT TO HIS SICK MOTHER AND ARRANGING MARRIAGE FOR HIS SISTER. ONE DAY, OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND SEVERE CRITICISM HE PLANNED TO KILL HIMSELF BUT AT THAT MOMENT A PHONE CALL CAME TELLING THAT HE WON 10 CRORE RUPEES IN LOTTERY. HE WAS SO EXCITED AT THE NEWS THAT HE SLIPPED HIS MOBILE PHONE FROM HIS HAND AND ACCIDENTALLY FELL FROM THE CHAIR AND HUNG HIMSELF.

'Aisha', a young ambitious business woman living in the city returns to her home village to attend her younger sister’s wedding. As she re-connects with her past, meeting family and friends, something unexpected happens that has disastrous consequences for her life. Everyone else would rather turn a blind eye, but Aisha decides to fight a tough battle for justice.


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Professional Shorts "BRUNSBUTTEL HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE" from Germany, Directed by Karsten Wiesel.

One of Germany's longest bridges spans the Kiel Canal near 'Brunsbuttel' at a height of 40 metres. As one approaches the structure, the more impressive its visual and acoustic appearance becomes. For the workmen and engineers of the technical service crew, the bridge is an object to be examined. For this movie, the bridge becomes actor, resonating body and metaphor.

3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Feature Film "ARLETTE-COURAGE IS A MUSCLE" from Germany, Directed by Florian Hoffmann.

A journey from Africa to Berlin turns into an unexpected journey from childhood to adulthood.The film centers around 'Arlette', a 15-year old girl from the Central African Republic who suffered severe injuries during the last war. In Berlin a surgery frees her from her year-long pain. This changes her both physically and mentally: suddenly Arlette is in her puberty. But then war breaks out again in her homeland. What was planned to be a short stay in Berlin turns into a journey without a foreseeable end. Arlette is forced to grow up and take her own decisions about her future. Stranded in Berlin the young girl faces the challenges of a foreign culture and a language she doesn't speak.This film is a long-term observation – told resolutely from the perspective of a young girl from the Central African Republic. And the viewer gets to see our everyday life through the genuine and honest eyes of Arlette.

"About art, My Family and Me" is the film wherein the director has tried to answer the questions he has as a young adult. What does art mean to him? How is art connected to his family? And who is his role in between? Using only home videos from his family, adding his improvised comment to it, a light essayistic film was born.

On their way to a concert, an ordinary band gets transported to an alternate dimension."EMOCEAN" starts out as a documentary about Fenster struggling to finish their third record when they are accidentally transported to an alternate dimension.In this surreal and disorienting landscape, nothing is what it seems. The band is forced to confront their paradoxical surroundings and somehow make sense of the absurd in order to find their way back to the reality they have come to think of as "real". But what is real?

"Disabled Foreigners" is the story abouy Emre and Laura have a project. Actually, they only know each other from the bus stop. Emre is a young Turkish origin wheelchairs. Exactly what Laura has wanted. She wants to write her master's thesis in sociology about him. Emre however wants to take the pretty student especially again. So he agrees. From now on, the two meet regularly. 

3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Feature Film "Buschow" from Germany, Directed by Rosa Friedrich.

"BUSCHOW" is the story about a relationship. It's an ideal relationship, that's shit. Two people in their mid-twenties are on vacation in a summer cottage in the woods. They don't understand each other's feelings, so they try to speak, about models of loving, about themselves, about love. Yet their different languages don't really allow them to meet, it's only through play that they can come together. Garden, house, and forest are the playground for their fairytale.

A film about dreams, responsibilities and the search for one’s place in life.


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Student Shorts "DJADO IVAN" from Germany, Directed by Silke Meya.

"DJADO IVAN" is the story of the 70 year old "Djado Ivan", who lives in Grivitsa, a small bulgarian town close to the romanian border. In close communion with nature and his many animals, he spends his life on his small farm and thereby maintains his very own rhythm of life. In order to portray his life, Silke Meya (Director) and Laura Mentgen (Director of Photography) spent one month with Ivan in Bulgaria where they were able to capture his philosophy of life.

"Jat Jatin" is the story of women’s tribulation Jat (Rajiv Dinkar) and Jatin (Amar Jyoti) fall in love with each other. A ruffian of the village named Chamru (Amiya kashyap) casts an evil eye on her and goes on harassing her till the end of the story. But she faces him courageously. In spite of lots of objections Jat and jatin get married.

"Moksha" is the story of One strange night, at a huge car compound, an armed security guard (Asif), while on duty, is pushed to kill his co- worker (Ashok).After this incident, Asif struggles to live a life of sanity, but fails.One particular night at the car compound, the same situation repeats itself.

He wanders the streets trying to connect to the present, but people walk on past. Will he drown in disconnection or will someone finally listen? Or is his existence irrelevant?

"Not Meant To Understand", a slice of life, is a piece of the story about a man and woman, married for more than forty years. They have enjoyed a strong physical relationship, as well as many financial successful ventures. They have been good friends, honest, caring, always generously working to help their community. Suddenly, the wife is struck by the reality that she herself is too old to ever have a child. She questions the decision which she and her husband made years ago to be child free. She has an emotional break down and lashes out at her husband for their now seemingly foolish decision..... They are faced with a past decision that now threatens the very essence of their relationship.

"Hi Stranger" is a film based on the backdrop of the deserted premises of the office. The film is of thriller genre. The characters of the film are contemporary. The film is set in the basement which is possessed by the devil. The certain characters die in the deserted parking areas. The hero of the film also gets trapped and tries to come out of it and this leads to further confusion and scare. The film captures an unexplored area of thriller.

3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Professional Shorts "Kujo - The Vessel" from India, Directed by Sourav De.

"Kujo - The Vessel" is a film based on some true events. It is not a movie in typical sense, as there is no straight narrative. It is neither a typical tale of a tortured woman. It is a tale much of which remains untold. The protagonist is a sex-slave. It throws light on some dark sides of human lives. It is a study of darker sides of characters of a boss, a caretaker, a customer and a victim. They are individuals representing universal greed, lust, sadism, voyeurism and despondence.



3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Student Shorts "...and Buddha smiled!" from India, Directed by Maheshkumar Munjale.

"...and Buddha smiled!" is a story based upon the background of strange Indian cast reality.A young boy Suraj (23) crosschecks reactions of parents by bringing the Idol of Buddha in Hindu home, to marry a girl Pradnya (21) from another cast and community.

The support group is a film about sisterhood and our contemporary rape culture.

The only thing he loves to do is to jog, He has his own reasons for this character.Then comes Gautham, a young man from Kashmir. Gautham meets up with Charlie & He tries to break in the circle of negativity, to see the reason behind this darkness.This in turn reveals Charlie's past and the reason for his character. Gautham gives his best to get back Charlie what he lost once, THE POWER OF HOPE.

"Chasing Shadows" is the story of Zaid who considers himself invincible, impervious to the frailties of the human heart. He's young, he doesn't care for the mess he leaves in his wake as long he gets to move on from one fix to another.However, when Zaid leaves his long-term girlfriend Zara for a hotter, younger thing he doesn't know it yet but he's in for a rude awakening that even he might not be able to recover from.


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Student Shorts "You Never Know" from USA, Directed by Ahmed Bhabhrawala.

"You Never Know" is a romantic story about Anna and Zach. Anna's routine is disrupted when she misses her train to go home. She chooses to wait for the next train, reading a book with her headphones plugged in, when Zach approaches her. He starts off the conversation by lying to her about having read the book she is reading, which she finds cocky and charming at the same time. Once they get talking, they bond over their interests and bicker about their differences, which are quite a lot. As the conversation progresses, Anna finds herself enjoying Zach's company which surprises her. Before either of them realizes, its time for the next train to arrive. Anna initiates an awkward handshake, when Zach invites her to his performance that night. Anna is taken aback by that question and enters the train anyway. In the split second moment before the doors close, Anna decides to think with her heart for once and leaves the station with Zach.



3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Professional Shorts "The Urban World" from USA, Directed by Warren Bass.

"The Urban World" follows the experiences of one family living in a mixed Hindu/Muslim slum as they and over 10,000 other families are evicted from their homes on the banks of India’s Sabarmati River to make way for a massive development project. The film is both a portrait of a family at a moment of crisis, an ethnography of a culture moved from a horizontal communal society to mid-rise facilities, and a case-study that raises multiple questions regarding public policy and social justice in solving the plight of the world’s urban poor.


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Feature Film "Aashiq-e-Vatan Maulana Azad" from India, Directed by Lavlin Thadani.

"Aashiq-e-Vatan Maulana Azad" is a docu-drama with anchoring, bytes of prominent public intellectuals, archival footage and enactment, thus combining the documentary format and the feature format. The film is on the life of the great Indian nationalist leader Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who played a major role in the struggle against British colonialism along with Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Maulana Azad was a practising Muslim and a scholar of Islamic theology, and his interpretation of Islam was in conformity with modern, liberal values, not coming in the way of identifying with and appreciating pluralistic societies.His was the strongest Muslim voice against the partition of India on religious lines (which led to the creation of Pakistan) and a stalwart of Indian literature and journalism and whose legacy includes the prowess of India in the field of technical education (he was the first Education Minister of India, who established the Indian Institutes of Technology, praised by the likes of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs).

3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Feature Film "Cholai" from India, Directed by Arun Roy.

"Cholai" is a black comedy based on the 2011 hooch fatalities in Bengal, India. Country liquor, commonly known as ‘Cholai’ is a flourishing business in rural Bengal It is cheap and highly addictive. A sudden turn of events is triggered when a batch of Cholai gets toxic during the brewing process. Soon people who had consumed the Cholai start falling ill and the death toll rises to 172. Media turns the incident into a political drama. To pacify the outrage, the Government launches compensation for the family members of the victims. A gold-rush ensues following the announcement, everyone wants their share. Deaths due to other causes could be become ‘entitled’ for compensation if the right palms are greased with their share. The mourning soon transforms into greed and corruption.

"Disorder" is a thrilling score which boldly punctuates and immerses into the revering, absurdist tale of a newly married couple. Phobic husband struggles to find answers to bizarre events whereas loving wife is agonized about those events. This newly married young couple’s mental turmoil leaves them no option but to surrender. 


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Student Shorts "The Wall" from Romania, Directed by Stela Pelin.

"The Wall" takes you to the Dystopian time era, where a group of young people are arrested for taking part in the riots in order to change the suppressive laws. Razvan Gris, the leader of the revolutioners is nowhere to be found. Amongst the prisoners we find Vadim Seriven, one of Razvan Gris’ friends and supporters. In a turn of events the prisoners are all sentenced to death. We witness their last night, their understanding of the situation, their confessions and the moment of acceptance.

"A while ago" is the story of 'Olive' who while trying to overcome the death of her father, choses loneliness and emerges herself in a world of imagination. Her friends think otherwise and try to help her by convincing her to join them on a short trip.


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Professional Shorts "Coffee at Laundromat" from Canada, Directed by Maahi Kaur.

"Coffee at Laundromat" highlights Immigration & LGBTQ issues among different ethnic groups in Canada. The story revolves around a local Laundromat, where citizens of diverse ethnicities and backgrounds are doing their laundry. As the story unfolds, the audience is introduced to these characters personal struggles. Many even shown as "outcasts" in their own country.


3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Student Shorts "Keeping Balance" from Austria, Directed by Bernhard Wenger.

"Keeping Balance" is the story about Denise, a 20-year-old girl, who visits nearly every day the Viennese 'Prater' amusement park to take some rides with the electronic 'Tagada' carousel because it helps her to get over her difficult past.

"Floating" is an an improvised tragicomedy on water.Katha is sure; she wants to marry Jana and she wants to have a baby with her. But Katha’s childhood friend Charly has a special surprise for her. A bachelorette’s night out with the „guys“. A weekend. The five of them. On a raft. There is Ken, her 'new' best friend, her little brother Tobi and, alas, Momo, the future sperm donor; this is bound to end badly. 




3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Feature film "LCHAIM TO LIFE" from Germany, Directed by Elkan Spiller.

"L'CHAIM!-TO LIFE!" is a story about Chaim Lubelski who was a Jewish scholar, and a part of the jet set of St. Tropez and a successful businessman in New York. At 63, he moved to Antwerp to live with his mother – a concentration camp survivor – taking care of her, day and night, with true love and joy. In his feature documentary debut L’CHAIM!, director and producer Elkan Spiller introduces us to his eccentric and charismatic cousin, whose non - conformist life, as a second generation survivor, is deeply affected by the Holocaust and its traumatic aftermath. A life full of absurdities and tenderness, which, like Spiller’s film, breaks with every cliche.
